  2. 2

    Send the code

Drop it in the group chat or shout it across the room. Up to twelve can enter.

  3. 3

    Trust nobody

Drive, watch, report. When the park meets, make your case and point.

How to play

One round, as it plays on your phone. About eight minutes, one thumb.

Before the round

  • Find Wahala

Tap Play to drive in your browser with any name. Or open Lagos Life, tap Games, then Wahala and play as your Lagos Life name and picture.

  • Pick your park

Free park: up to twelve kekes, no fare. Stake park: four kekes, one fare each and the winner carries the pot.

  • Put your fare

Stake parks only. Choose your fare and confirm it in Lagos Life.

  1. Stop 1 of 10

    Enter the park

Start a park and shout the code to your people. The round starts when the park fills.

  2. Stop 2 of 10

    See your role

Your card says who you be. You dey drive. One keke in this park got the other card: agbero. Keep yours to yourself.

  3. Stop 3 of 10

    Hit the road

Steer with your thumb. Your list of stops slides in: drive to each one. The bar at the top shows how far everybody don reach.

  4. Stop 4 of 10

    Do your stop

At the stop, hold Do stop until the ring fills. Ding: the stop is done and your keke moves up the route.

  5. Cut to the agbero

    The agbero strikes

Meanwhile, on the agbero's phone. Kunle pulls up beside Musa when nobody dey look and presses Knock. Musa's keke breaks down where it stands.

  6. Stop 6 of 10

    Wahala!

Agberos cause wahala too. NEPA don take light: everybody drives by headlamp until somebody pulls the generator cord at Oshodi.

  7. Stop 7 of 10

    Report am

You drive up on Musa's broken-down keke. Report lights up. Press it and the whole park meets. Something no add up? Honk the horn at the park.

  8. Stop 8 of 10

    Park meeting

Everybody shouts for 45 seconds, then 30 seconds to vote. Point at the one you suspect, or carry go. Musa is knocked out, so he watches.

  9. Stop 9 of 10

    Owa!

The keke with the most points gets dropped at the bus stop and the bus drives off. Was it the agbero? If any agbero is left, everybody goes back on the road.

  10. Stop 10 of 10

    We don reach

Drivers win when every stop is done or every agbero is dropped. Agberos win when they take over the park. Every round pays coins.

The round
The round as a route: enter the park, collect your role, hit the road, park meeting, check the road, results, then play again.

Eight or more of you? Two agberos dey the park. Fewer? Just one. After every drop, everybody goes back on the road until one side wins. Win a stake park and you carry the pot.

Carry the pot

There are two kinds of money in Wahala and they never mix.

Fare is Lagos Life game money, not real money. Four players each put in the same fare and the winner takes it all.

Coins are Wahala money. You earn them by playing, or buy them in Lagos Life and spend them to dress up your keke. Coins can't be used as fare and can't be cashed out.

Stake parks: fare
  • Four seats, one fare. Everybody puts the same fare, so the pot is fare times four.
  • One winner carries it. Your side wins and the best player on it carries the pot, less Lagos Life's 5%. Put ₦1,000 and the winner carries ₦3,800.
  • Best player, by the numbers. Stops done, right votes, staying alive, reports and knocks all count. A tie is settled by a fair draw, not by us.
  • Nobody loses to bad luck. A draw, a park that no fill in 15 minutes, or a round that goes wrong: everybody's fare comes back.
  • Lagos Life holds the money. You put your fare in Lagos Life and Lagos Life pays the winner.
Coins: earn or buy
  • Play, earn. Finish a round and you earn coins. Win and you earn more. Every stop you do adds a little.
  • Or buy them. Coin packs are sold inside Lagos Life and you pay there. Wahala never sees your card.
  • Fair for everybody. There is a limit on the coins you can earn each day, so nobody runs away with the shop.
  • Spend on looks. Roof loads and windshield slogans. Nothing in the shop changes how the game plays.
  • Never fare, never cash. Bought or earned, coins never buy fare, never buy a seat in a stake park and never cash out.
Climb the board
  • Every win counts. Your wins go on the Wahala board inside Lagos Life after every round.
  • Always see your place. The top fifty show and your own place always shows under them.
  • Bragging rights only. The board never pays out. Prizes come from the pot, not the board.

Stake parks are coming soon to Lagos Life. Free parks are open now.

Make it your keke

Twelve kekes, twelve plates. Every keke carries its colour, its plate number and your name, so nobody gets lost in the park.

  • 01Danfo Yellow
  • 02Jollof Red
  • 03Adire Indigo
  • 04Palm Green
  • 05Dodo Orange
  • 06Zobo Purple
  • 07Lagoon Teal
  • 08Ankara Pink
  • 09Ugwu Lime
  • 10Agege Tan
  • 11Harmattan
  • 12Suya Smoke

Dress your keke

Roof loads and windshield slogans, paid for with coins you earn on the road or buy in Lagos Life. Nothing in the shop changes how the game plays.

Questions

Is Wahala free?

Yes. Free parks cost nothing, for up to twelve players. Stake parks are optional and live inside Lagos Life: you only put fare when you choose a stake park.

Is the fare real money?

No. Fare is Lagos Life game money, from your Lagos Life balance and it never cashes out. You confirm it in Lagos Life and Lagos Life holds it and pays the winner. Wahala never touches it.

Who carries the pot in a stake park?

The winning side wins and the best player on that side carries the pot, less Lagos Life's 5%. Stops done, right votes, staying alive, reports and knocks all count. The full rules are on the Fair play page.

What if the park doesn't fill or the round can't be decided?

Everybody's fare comes back. That covers a draw, a park that doesn't fill in 15 minutes and a round that goes wrong.

Do I need an account?

No. Inside Lagos Life you play as your Lagos Life name and picture. In your browser you just pick a name and Log out in the menu lets you come back as somebody else. Wahala never asks for your email, phone number or password.

Can I buy coins?

Yes. Earn them by playing, or buy coin packs in Lagos Life. Coins are spent only on roof loads and slogans. Bought or earned, they never buy fare or a seat in a stake park and never cash out.

What phone do I need?

Any recent iPhone or Android phone. Wahala plays in your browser and inside Lagos Life, phone upright, with one thumb and it is light on data.

Can I put Wahala on my home screen?

Yes. Open Wahala in your phone's browser and add it to your home screen. The icon is the Jollof Red keke and it dresses for the season: Independence green-white-green, harmattan dust, Detty December lights and the rainy season.

Can I play with my friends?

Yes. Start a park and read the park code out. Free parks take up to twelve players and stake parks take four.

Is it like Among Us?

Same idea: a group of players with hidden troublemakers among them. Wahala is its own game, set in a Lagos motor park, with its own kekes, art and rules.

Full rules for stake parks, refunds and limits are on the Fair play page.
